I just updated my About Me page with some of my favourite things. I'd like to share with you a few photos of these with you. To the left is a dress from one of my absolute favourite clothing brands, Trollied Dolly. They make super cute retro inspired dresses. The leather cuff is from Lenny & Eva. I love their metal sentiments that you can interchange with all their cuffs. This sentiment is Voltaire and reads "Wherever my travels may lead, paradise is where I am".The little charm hanging off it is a Hand of Fatima charm I bought in Morocco. The turquoise beads were a gift from hubby earlier this year. I absolutely love turquoise.
The photo below is of some of my favourite art supplies. I've always been a sucker for them and these are just a few of the many supplies I use when I art journal or paint. I love the strength of pigment in Golden paints and their heavy body range is like butter. I've been using Shiva oil Paintstiks for a little while now and I love them. I've never painted with oils before and I find these a very handy way of using oil without all the fumes. The rubber stamps are a few from my vast collection of Unity Stamp Co stamps. I love Unity because they are an Angel company, meaning they permit artists to use their stamps in works for sale, provided the stamped image is not reproduced/photocopied. They have stamps for every occasion and my favourites tend to be of nature and phrases.
The last photo is of my Pretty Pocket Smash book where I document Gutsy Girl ideas and store all my receipts. I love Smash books, it's easily to get addicted because they are very well made. Even if you aren't creative, you will be with a Smash book! The very imposing, yet stylish mallet is my Melody Ross Chip Art mallet which I carry around in my handbag and use to vent my frustrations with. No, not really! I use them with the boxed metal stamps on leather. Jeez! Alternatively, I use them like rubber stamps. The Peacock set is my favourite. Also visible are stencils I use in painted backgrounds for texture, and an excerpt of a painting which I added a poem to for Sprout Magazine. This is my first published poem since I had a couple published in the 1990's.
2012 has been a year of discovery for me, discovering new things, discovering the camaraderie of online art and art communities, exploring/questioning the real me and also being challenged by the past to deal with things left dormant for far too long. It's a simple poem but I'm proud of it because it says all I needed to say to myself. Writing this poem awakened me. No longer will I be silenced from realising the strength I have within me. We all have it, you know. You just have to engage it.
