Loving: living my truth, authenticity, honesty & support, a wonderful husband who knows exactly what I need when I am too strung out to even know myself, the most amazing best friend a girl could ask for (thank you Tash for your friendship and support in good times and bad), twilight walks home listening to awesome tunes (see below), fairy floss coloured clouds above a sunny winter sky and sultry cups of warming chai.
Reading: an old favourite from the 90's - Lost Souls by Poppy Z. Brite. When I began writing this post last week I was halfway through, now I'm nearing the end. I've read so many books since this one that I've forgotten the ending but I am thoroughly enjoying this walk down memory lane. Brite is one of my most favourite writers. Lost Souls is a dark, disturbing and at times savage tale of vampires set in the American South. Every sight, smell and sound is almost eerily tangible. If you think you've read every adaptation of the vampire myth, you are mistaken. This one will shock you, draw you in with every swig of Chartreuse and every throat ripping bite.
My next fiction read will be Vampire Empire by Clay and Susan Griffith. I found out about this title when I was doing frantic searches for my next vamp read!
For something different but totally relevant to my life right now is The Gifts of Imperfection by Brene Brown. This book has been sitting on my art table for several months. I'm in a place right now where I finally feel ready to read it because it will help me get past some stuff from my teenage years.
Watching: Dollhouse - I've missed a few episodes but I'm interested in seeing where this series goes. It's only been broadcast here in Australia on free-to-air for the first time. I love Joss Whedon's creations - yes, huge, HUGE Buffy fan here (and Angel). Next on my watch list is the Firefly series.
Thinking about: My first appearance in an online magazine – Sprout (see sidebar)! So excited about this and I thank Amanda Fall from the bottom of my heart for her creation and allowing me to be part of the Serenity issue.
Creative business related - Developing a blog schedule, creating more art and jewellery prototypes and setting up my online shop. How daunting putting yourself out there is, for friends, future friends and foes to read my thoughts, see my work and to know more about me. On a more personal level, what my husband and I can do and say to teach our 6 year old daughter about being brave, doing what’s right and following your dreams.
Anticipating: My trip to Vietnam and Taipei next month. I’ve never been to either destination before. Visiting Vietnam has been a long time coming, I initially wanted to go there when I was about 23 but went to India instead, promising myself I would go to Vietnam one day. Trekking in Sapa, exploring the Old Quarter in Hanoi, cruising Halong Bay and taking in the sights and shops of Taipei will be wonderful experiences.
Wishing: that injustice did not exist in this world, that bullies could feel the pain their actions cause and that their targets could move on unscathed & unscarred. Well, I can dream, can’t I?
Making me happy: My walking home playlist:
Birth Ritual – Soundgarden
Can’t Keep – Eddie Vedder
Malibu – Hole
Chloe Dancer/Crown of Thorns – Mother Love Bone
Hurricane – 30 Seconds to Mars
Burn It Down – Linkin Park
