I went to Susana Frioni’s Sacred Dance Party last weekend and danced my soul into a new beginning. I have not moved like that since her last dance party, a year ago…or ever, actually! I danced my spirit into healing, I also screamed my soul into truth and cried my heart into forgiveness and receptivity. I feel so different on all levels since last year's dance party. I have grown so much since the glowing embers of Creative Fire. I have healed so much, yet I also acquired new wounds along the way which have needed to be tended to and healed.
My vision for the gutsy life and person I am growing into has never been clearer. I can’t ever recall being this excited about the unknown that lies ahead. I am not worried about it. I am not anxious about it. I can taste the freedom that the unknown brings. I know what anxiety feels like. I know and understand that pain. I survived with dormant and unresolved trauma for 22 years.
What I’ve learned during these years of self-discovery and spirituality is: I have the power to change my life. I do not have to accept the crap. I get to choose how I feel. I can have the cherry on top, not just the crumbs. I can still love myself first and give to others without selling myself short. It's okay to be cookies and honour the beginnings and the evolution.
Dance has always equated to freedom and personal expression for me. While dance is a healing art form, you don’t have to be a ‘dancer’ to enjoy the benefits. During the recent leadership training with my students, the brilliant Lauren of Sexosophy (one of the expert guest teachers) spoke of embodiment and that if a woman was feeling disconnected from her body - one, some or all of the four pillars of embodiment were missing.
I’m going to offer one of these pillars to you now that I’m talking about it: Movement.
Moving your body brings you into a state of presence and awareness of your body. So many of us have suffered from shame and comparison about our bodies that we don’t take care of them, we look outside for our worth, we tune out and away from our inner knowing and this leads to the fractured relationship we have with ourselves.
I want to remind you that you are so worthy of love and that your body is an essential part of the equation. Show her some love today. It can be as simple as applying body oil or lotion and offering loving thoughts and gratitude to her (you!). Your gorgeous body carries you through life and you need her.
