Yesterday we arrived in Hanoi after a restless night on the plane to Taipei. Our 4 hour transit stop in Taipei had the 10 of us taking every available seat surface at our departure gate to have a quick kip. Taoyuan Airport comes alive at 6am when all the shops open for business. The Hello Kitty nursery room was so sweet that we all had to take a look. After wandering the shops, drooling over a very cute emerald green Coach bag and adding more Hello Kitty items to the gift list for my little girl and seeing countless bottles of whiskey in the stores (more than I've ever seen before), we boarded our flight to Hanoi.
We were picked up from the airport and taken into the bustling Old Quarter of Hanoi to our hotel to freshen up before embarking on a walking tour from midday that didn't stop until dinner time. Havaianas might seem cool to wear, but not after a day of walking. Some of us went off and did our own thing whilst a small number of the group went out to dinner and had foot massages.
Topped the night off with a Cointreau and soda before sleeping for 3 hours, waking up, falling asleep and waking at 4.30am. Argh! My brain just won't switch off. I already miss my husband and daughter. It's mental...but expected when they are my whole world.
I'm iphone-less as I didn't organise unlocking of my phone in time so I'll be updating the blog and other social media in a limited way over the next 2 weeks.
Off for a cyclo tour of the city and later, a good massage before boarding the train to Sapa this evening.
Stay tuned for more posts on my Vietnam adventure and photos too, now that I've returned home!
