You can say fuck, and still be spiritual.
I just want to be me. That’s all. But it isn’t so simple. We assign each other and ourselves all these labels so people can box us, catalog us and know who and how we might fit into their lives. We are forced to fit in at school, at uni and at work. It makes many of us miserable. We are assigned employee numbers and ID cards and form part of the system as we punch our timecards and fill out timesheets.
As coaches and mentors, it helps to assign ourselves with labels to define ‘who we are’ so that it is easier for our potential clients to know whether we are the one for them. We use words like authenticity to try to explain to people that we truly are genuine. I’m so sick of labelling myself. Sick of saying I’m a Highly Sensitive Person, an Introvert, an Empath so I’m ‘understood’ - though not really, because being misunderstood seem more likely (and that is not just me being cynical).
Being sensitive does not mean I’m weak or fragile, it means I can connect with my emotions and yours better than the average Jane and I can help you at a depth that most are too afraid to plunge. To me it means I have emotional intelligence in addition to my other strengths, superpowers and gifts. I embrace my shadow just as much as I embrace my light because that's where I believe the gold lies.
I’m Sharyn Holmes. I’m more Me than ever. I teach women to thrive at their edges. I teach women that they deserve more. I teach women not to settle. I teach women that glass ceilings are meant to be broken. I teach women if they see a concrete ceiling, kick it in. I teach mamas that they can have a self-care routine and still be a good mother. In fact, having a self-care routine means that you can be the best mother to your kids. I mentor girls with positive messages, creative play and gutsy girl empowerment. I share my stories of bullying and racism to teach our kids that kindness first is essential.
While I'm at it, there are no rules on how to be spiritual, how to be free or how to express yourself. Your life, your rules, your terms. Because if you are playing at life and it's not on your terms? Is it your life that you're truly living?
